Submit SuggestionEuropean alternatives to Nagios include Icinga and Checkmk (both Germany), Zabbix (Latvia) and Centreon (France). Several of them grew out of Nagios itself, so they can reuse much of its plugin knowledge. Nagios is a US company: Ethan Galstad founded Nagios Enterprises in 2007 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to offer consulting and development around the open-source Nagios Core, which has existed since 1999.
Anyone moving away from Nagios usually wants a graphical configuration, automatic discovery of new hosts or better scaling. Icinga is the closest match for existing Nagios setups, because plugins and many concepts carry over. Checkmk and Zabbix offer more automation but need a new configuration. All four are run on the company's own servers, and none is a hosted service. They are compared in the infrastructure monitoring category.
