Choosing a chain

  • Most countries: Fressnapf and its Maxi Zoo stores cover the German-speaking countries, France, Poland and more.
  • One country, many stores: Pets at Home in the United Kingdom, Arcaplanet in Italy, Musti in the Nordic countries.
  • Mostly online: zooplus and Zoomalia deliver across several countries.

Ownership

Iskaypet carries the non-European parent flag, because the Peruvian family group EMEFIN bought Kiwoko and Tiendanimal. Fressnapf is led by its founder Torsten Toeller, with the British investor Cinven as a minority shareholder. zooplus is held by two private equity firms: the US firm Hellman & Friedman leads the owner company, and the Swedish EQT announced equal governance rights alongside it. The exact split of the capital is not published. For that reason zooplus is not flagged here.

What Europe does not offer as one brand

The big American chains Petco and PetSmart have no stores in Europe. For pet food brands see the page on European pet food.
