Fressnapf (Maxi Zoo)

Fressnapf is a German pet supply retailer headquartered in Krefeld. Torsten Toeller opened the first "Freßnapf" store in Erkelenz in 1990 and is still the owner and majority shareholder. Outside Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Romania the stores trade as Maxi Zoo, for example in France, Poland, Ireland, Denmark and Belgium.

• Pet services and an online shop next to the stores, which the company calls an omnichannel model

Where to find it

The company reports more than 2,800 stores in 15 European countries under the brands Fressnapf, Maxi Zoo and Arcaplanet (company facts page, 2025). It calls itself market leader in eight countries.

Ownership

Torsten Toeller holds the majority of the shares. The British private equity firm Cinven became a minority shareholder in 2024 when Fressnapf bought the Italian chain Arcaplanet. No non-European owner holds a majority.
