Ableton

Ableton is a music software and hardware company based in Berlin. It was founded in 1999 by the same people who still run it and now employs more than 350 people. Its main product is Ableton Live, a digital audio workstation (DAW) built both for composing in the studio and for performing on stage.

Features

• Live works with two views: a Session View for launching and combining clips, and an Arrangement View for conventional timeline editing.
• Live 12 adds MIDI Transformations and Generators, a scale-aware workflow (Keys and Scales), tuning systems beyond 12-tone equal temperament and a browser with tags and Sound Similarity Search.
• Built-in devices include the Meld synthesizer and the Roar saturation effect, and Max for Live lets users build their own devices.
• Besides the software, Ableton makes Push, Move and Note.

Editions and platforms

Live runs on Windows and macOS. It is sold in several editions, and Live Suite is also available as rent-to-own, so the price depends on the edition. Live 12.4 was released as a free update for all Live 12 owners.
