Bitwig

Bitwig is a Berlin software company that was founded in 2009 by four people. Its first product, Bitwig Studio, launched in 2014: a digital audio workstation (DAW) for Windows, macOS and Linux. About 30 people work at the Berlin headquarters.

Features

• Bitwig Studio is built for recording, arranging, improvising and performing.
• The Grid is a modular sound-design environment inside the DAW.
• Bitwig supports open standards: the Open Controller Extension API, CLAP (an open-source plug-in standard) and DAWproject (an open file format for exchanging projects between DAWs).
• In 2025 Bitwig released its first hardware product, Bitwig Connect, an audio and MIDI interface that doubles as monitor and DAW controller.

Why it stands out

Among the larger DAWs Bitwig is one of the few with a native Linux version, and its commitment to open formats makes moving projects and plug-ins between programs easier.
