Native Instruments

Website

Native Instruments (NI) is a Berlin music technology company. It is known for the sampler platform Kontakt, the DJ software Traktor and the Komplete collection of instruments and effects. Through the iZotope, Plugin Alliance and Brainworx brands it also offers mixing and mastering tools. NI says it has a direct relationship with more than 25 million registered users.

Features

  • Kontakt is a sampler platform on which many third-party instrument libraries run.
  • Traktor is DJ software with matching controllers.
  • The Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) lets hardware controllers browse and play compatible instruments and effects without custom mapping.

Ownership

EMH Partners sold a majority stake to the US investment firm Francisco Partners in 2021. In January 2026 NI entered insolvency proceedings in Germany. On 8 May 2026 NI and inMusic, a Rhode Island company that owns Akai Professional, Moog and M-Audio, announced a definitive agreement for inMusic to acquire NI, and MusicTech reported in June 2026 that NI had been sold to inMusic. Because the owner is American, the product carries the non-European parent flag. Both companies state that products, services and support continue.
