Ankarsrum
WebsiteAnkarsrum is a Swedish maker of the Assistent Original, a stand mixer with a design that differs from the usual planetary mixers. The machine is named after the small town of Ankarsrum in Sweden, where it is made. According to the company, the inventor Alvar Lenning developed the mixer in 1940, first for use in Swedish bakeries.
How it works
Instead of a hook that circles through the bowl, the bowl itself rotates and a roller and a scraper work the dough. This suits large and heavy doughs such as bread, and the machine can also whisk, knead and, with attachments, mince, grind or make pasta.
Range
- Assistent Original mixer in several colours
- Attachments such as the premium beater set, grain mill and meat grinder
- Replacement parts
Good to know
The company states that every mixer is made by hand in Sweden and gives a seven-year warranty. The design is compact and heavy, and it is more expensive than most mixers from large appliance groups. It is a specialised choice for people who bake bread regularly.
