Back Market

Website

Back Market is a French marketplace for refurbished electronics, founded in Paris in 2014 by Thibaud Hug de Larauze, Quentin Le Brouster and Vianney Vaute. Professional refurbishers sell smartphones, laptops, tablets, game consoles and appliances that have been tested and graded by condition. In 2022 the platform was available in 16 countries in Europe, North America and Asia.

Features

  • Refurbished devices at lower prices than new ones, with a condition grade for each offer.
  • A warranty and a return period offered on devices sold through the platform.
  • Trade-in offers for old devices in some countries.

Limits

Back Market does not repair or sell devices itself. Offers come from independent refurbishers, so quality and delivery still depend on the seller. Investors include General Atlantic, Eurazeo, Aglaé Ventures, Generation Investment Management and Sprints Capital, and no single non-European majority holder is documented. The range is limited to electronics.
