Rothaus

Website

Rothaus is the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG in the High Black Forest. The Benedictine monastery of St. Blasien founded the brewery in 1791 next to the inn Zum Rothen Haus, and it lies at about 1,000 metres above sea level. After secularisation in 1806 it passed to the Grand Duchy of Baden, and its state ownership explains the name that has stayed ever since.

Range

  • Tannenzäpfle, the light beer in the 0.33 litre bottle that the brewery introduced in 1956
  • Weizenzäpfle, a wheat beer from 1996, and alcohol-free versions of both since 2009
  • Rothaus GenussWelt with brewery inn, museum, brewery tours and shop on site

Ownership

The company is a stock corporation whose shares are held 100 percent by the Beteiligungsgesellschaft des Landes Baden-Württemberg mbH, so ultimately by the German state of Baden-Württemberg. That makes Rothaus a public company rather than a family or corporate brand, with no non-European parent.
