Website

Supercell is a Finnish mobile game company based in Helsinki. It was founded on 14 May 2010 and is behind Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Squad Busters and mo.co. The company says it has about 930 employees, called Supercellians, and works in small independent teams that can cancel their own games. Supercell games are free to play and earn money through in-app purchases.

Features

  • Free-to-play mobile games for iOS and Android with global player communities.
  • Small team structure: each game is developed by a self-managed team.
  • Games with long lifetimes, updated regularly for years after release.
  • Offices in Helsinki and in several other cities, including Shanghai, San Francisco and Seoul.

Ownership and limits

In 2016 the Chinese group Tencent acquired about 81.4 percent of Supercell for roughly 8.4 billion euros. Supercell is therefore marked as having a non-European parent. The company's headquarters and creative work remain in Finland. In-app purchases are part of every game, so spending limits for children are worth setting up.
