Submit SuggestionEuropean alternatives to Google Cloud include T Cloud Public (Germany), 3DS Outscale (France), Cyso Cloud (Netherlands), Cleura (Sweden) and Safespring (Sweden), all cloud platforms run by companies headquartered in Europe. Google Cloud is the cloud business of the US group Alphabet. Its servers can stand in European data centres, but the provider remains an American company, which is the main reason organisations look for European platforms. This page lists the European cloud platforms in the directory and explains what a switch involves.
According to Google, the platform comprises more than 150 products. The core services are Compute Engine for virtual machines, Google Kubernetes Engine for containers, Cloud Run for serverless containers, Cloud Storage for object storage, Cloud SQL for managed databases and BigQuery as a data warehouse. Google states that GKE runs certified Kubernetes and open standards, which makes container workloads easier to move than services that exist only at one provider.
For European customers, Google offers variants operated together with local partners. In France the offer called Trusted Cloud is operated by S3NS, a French company, in cooperation with Thales. In Germany T-Systems offers a sovereign cloud powered by Google Cloud. Google also offers an air-gapped variant that runs fully disconnected. These options change who operates the service, but the technology still comes from Google. Whether this meets a specific legal or contractual requirement is a question for the organisation's own legal review.
Details for each provider are on its product page. Further European infrastructure providers are listed in other categories: VPS hosting includes STACKIT, Hetzner, OVH and IONOS, Object storage providers cover the equivalent of Cloud Storage, and PaaS providers offer managed application platforms. The overview page Cloud computing platforms shows all of them.
The directory lists T Cloud Public, 3DS Outscale, Cyso Cloud, Cleura and Safespring as cloud platforms, plus infrastructure providers such as STACKIT, Hetzner, OVH and IONOS.
No. The location of the servers does not change the company behind the service, which is American. Partner-operated variants such as S3NS change the operator but use Google technology.
Usually yes. Kubernetes is an open standard. European providers usually offer virtual machines on which it can run, and many also offer managed Kubernetes. Check this with the specific provider.
Yes, for example for Gmail, Google Drive and Google Docs. The hub page European alternatives to Google links them all.
