Submit SuggestionUber Eats is the food delivery service of the American company Uber, headquartered in San Francisco. It delivers restaurant meals and groceries through an app, usually with couriers on bikes, scooters or cars, and is active in many European countries. People look for an alternative because of the fees, because a favourite restaurant is not on the platform or because they prefer a provider headquartered in Europe.
Every app has its own restaurant list, so the choice depends on the street. Prices on the menu, delivery fees and service fees differ between apps and cities, and a quick comparison for the same order is the only reliable test. Restaurants often have their own delivery or pick-up, which avoids platform fees altogether.
Overview and ownership of all providers are in the category food delivery apps. The same company also runs rides: for these see European alternatives to Uber.
Just Eat Takeaway.com and Lieferando are the largest European platforms, but their parent Prosus is partly owned by a South African group. Bolt Food is the only large provider without such an owner.
Both started in Europe and have their headquarters there, but DoorDash from the USA owns them and they carry a notice for a non-European parent.
That depends on the address. The apps show restaurants only after the address is entered, so installing two or three and testing the address is the quickest way to find out.
